John’s Rules Of Life

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

I have no clue who John is but I like his “rules of life” so much that I’m dedicating an entire post to them.He does have some nice gems in there somewhere and I hope you find one or 2 that appeal to you and give you a new perspective on life ….enjoy John’s rules of life….

-You can’t save the world so save yourself and help others when you can

-Take pride in your work.Want to do the best job possible

-You will make mistakes.Don’t dwell on them.Learn from them

-Do not accept or settle for second best.Want the best and strive for it

-You can’t make people change. They have to want to change, then change themselves

-Things are not always as they appear or as they are represented to you.Trust your instincts but keep an open mind.

-People are products of their heredity and environment.Their personality is influenced by past experiences and future goals and objectives

-Welcome honesty in a person but do not expect it

-Don’t confuse your pride with your principles.Don’t let your pride influence decisions that you make in life.

-Accept gestures of friendship but don’t demand or except them

-Never assume you know what someone is thinking or what someone means in words or actions. If you are unsure, ask

-Do not live in the past or anticipate the future.Live in the present but do not live day to day

-Goodness always prevails over evil but it will prevail in its own time not yours and may not suit your personal needs

-Adults do know the difference between right and wrong.Sometimes they choose wrong

-Never judge another person’s actions or decisions. You have no idea what motivated them to take that action or make that decision

-You can change your principles but do not compromise them for another

-Reality is a state of mind,to a degree. The meaning of what you say is determined solely by the way another person interprets it and their notions and perceptions which are sometimes already a standard in their mind before you speak

I’ve always wondered what Santa does with his free time..well now I know.Apparently santa likes to get his drink on big time!He also enjoys walking around without any pants on.He is definitely going to wake up with one heck of a hangover!

Now we know whose name is definitely on the naughty list.

gas pricesI took this picture on 10-04-2006 at my local Ingles back when gas prices were really low.Back then I recall thinking to myself “there is a God and I have the proof”…now gas is up to $3.06 and even $3.25 in some areas…so maybe there is no God afterall.

I have an on going bet with someone as to whether gas prices will ever be this low again..I think they will. She doesn’t.I’m so going to enjoy spending her money when I win this bet!

Sometimes hubby knows best…

If you know me,you know I’m always right.

Seriously.I am always right.I’m also very stubborn and rarely listen to anything anyone else has to say, especially my hubby…no don’t feel sorry for him,he is a very stubborn man himself and he believes he is always right all the time!!As you can imagine, there is never a dull moment in our house.

Anyway, not too long ago I decided to get a new cell phone.Because I normally take excellent care of my gadgets,I figured I didn’t need insurance for my new cellphone but my hubby insisted that I get it.I can be such a cheapskate at times and I didn’t honestly feel like paying the $4.99 insurance premium per month for the phone but my hubby just wouldn’t let it go so I grudgingly gave in and got the darn insurance.

Boy oh boy am I glad I got it.Yesterday,my little dude thought it would be fun to just play with my phone. He grabbed it and jumped right in a tub full of water with the phone in his hand. The phone is a total write-off..it wont work BUT thanks to that insurance that my husband insisted I get,the AT&T guys are sending me a new phone tomorrow!!All it cost me is $50 for the deductible..had I not had that insurance,I would have had to pay over $200 for a new phone. So just this once,I’ll admit,I was wrong and I’m glad I listened to my hubby.

Yes,as much as it pains me to admit it…sometimes hubby knows best (gosh I guess I’ll never hear the end of this..he’ll probably print this out and hang it on the wall!)

I’m boycotting IHOP

piss me off

My friend “itchy” (I know, strange nickname but he’s really a nice fella who’d totally give his right kidney to you if you asked politely..) posted the cartoon above on a forum we both frequent and I thought it was way too cute especially seeing as it accurately describes my experience at IHOP this past Wednesday night…

If you’re not familiar with IHOP (International House of Pancakes),its a restaurant that sells what appears to be good food at an affordable price.Their speciality is pancakes but they do have a whole bunch of other stuff from steaks to salads to chicken…anyway,I’d never been to an IHOP before so this past Wednesday night when I was out with my family,we decided to give IHOP a try.We got there, got seated by the hostess, got our menus, the kids got their crayons and then the drama began…

For starters usually when a hostess gets you all settled into your booth or at your table, your server comes and asks you what you want to drink while you wait to order. No server showed up at our table. Now I know you’re thinking the place was busy and all the servers were attending to other customers but no,the place was “dead”,there were very few customers and what were the servers doing?Standing in the kitchen talking.Yes,you read that right..the IHOP servers were standing in the kitchen gossiping with each other instead of attending to us.

No one came to our table to ask if we at least wanted drinks. No one came to ask if we were ready to order. No one even bothered to come and tell us of any specials..I hate when restaurants try and force their “special of the day” on you right before you order but on Wednesday night I would have appreciated it if someone had tried to at least force the special of the day on me!But these people did NOT even acknowledge our presence. It was like we were invisible. My son even tried to get the waitresses’ attention by waving his hands but they looked at him and went right back to their gossiping! To say we got frustrated would be the understatement of the year.We ended up walking out of the restaurant.

Clearly these people don’t like their jobs because their customer service sucks. They don’t understand that they have jobs because of customers like us.They don’t get it that without customers going to IHOP,they wouldn’t get any tips or their weekly pay cheque. They are just lucky we were so pissed off we just walked out and didn’t file a report with their manager.

I do know one thing for sure…I’ll never eat at an IHOP ever.I’ve never eaten at one and after my experience at the IHOP on Panola Road in Lithonia,Georgia,I’ll never even set foot in another IHOP again.

I love tech geeks guys, actually one tech geek guy

Lately my linksys wireless router has been acting up.I’m seriously convinced its PMSing. One second its working just fine, the next second,it absolutely refuses to work and I always end up having to disconnect and reconnect it which is a pain in all the wrong places for someone as lazy as I am.

Anyway,I finally got frustrated and decided to call the linksys tech support for help.Due to my previous experience with support peeps (yes Dell geeks guys, your support sucks big time!),I was prepared for battle .Let me explain why…I don’t mind that companies outsource their support departments. What nags the living day lights out of me is the fact that the support people don’t take the time to understand the problem when you call them.Instead, they are trained puppets who read off a script instead of listening to your problem and using their brains to help you fix whatever the problem is.I mean,if I wanted to follow a script,I’d read the damn manual…but by the time I call tech support,I have read the manual over and over again and tried everything and still failed…so please take the time to actually help me with my problem instead of reading a script back to me…Anyway….

…when I called the linksys tech dept,a very nice dude called Paul answered in the sweetest, most polite voice ever.He asked me the routine questions (name, phone etc, etc) and then asked what my problem was and how he could help me.I explained what my wireless router was doing and he calmly told me “I understand thats very frustrating and I’m sorry you’re experiencing trouble.I’m going to do everything possible to fix this for you”.With just that one simple sentence,Paul won me over.He wasn’t trying to read a script,he was trying to genuinely help me.He got straight down to business and within a few minutes had figured out what the problem was and helped me fix it.

Paul is in the Phillipines.I’m glad linksys decided to outsource to the Phillipines instead of India. No offence to the Indians but I’ve never had any luck with the Indian tech peeps..I always get so frustrated I end up hanging up the phone before my problem is resolved.Indians in my experience are so notorious for reading off scripts and then there is that “minor” accent issue…I always spend at least 20 – 30 minutes trying to understand what the heck the Indian support person is saying:(

Anyway, right now I’m enjoying my wireless router..its no longer PMSing thanks to my really cool Phillipines tech geek guy Paul.So to Paul,I say thanks alot..I hope its stopped raining in the Phillipines and you’re now getting some nice weather.
