Things that make you go hmmm…

Friday, July 27th, 2007

The media had a field day with this story so I won’t bore you with the details..simply google the 2 words you see next to the word color in the picture below and you’ll see what all the fuss is about…

nigger brown couch

I’ve never understood why anyone in their right mind would resort to using the “N” word.

I’m not comfortable with that word.

I don’t use it and I certainly don’t want anyone around me using it.

It doesn’t matter if you’re white, black or green..just don’t use the “N” word around me.

Its ignorant.

I wonder how much money this woman and her family will get if they decide to sue…

Myspace shirt

Friday, July 20th, 2007

If I weren’t a parent,I’d find this shirt funny but I’m a parent so I don’t see the humor in this. Yes,I worry about sites like myspace.Okay lets face it,I worry about the internet as a whole.Scratch that, ever since I gave birth,I worry about everything.

myspace

I know worrying doesn’t solve anything but I can’t help it.When I turn on the TV and Dateline is showing yet another instalment of “To Catch A Predator“,I say a prayer for any kids out who have been victims of predators.I can’t for the life of me figure out why anyone would want to engage in any sexual activity with a minor. Its stupid and sick in my opinion.

complicated

..during my dating years,I was constantly amazed at how clueless some guys were about ALOT of stuff.I wish this post card had been available then as a huge poster..I would have hung it up on my door and shown it to every guy I went on a date with….okay thats a bit much,I wouldn’t do that,I’d probably just forward it to them as an attachment via email (hehehehe let email do all my dirty work for me!!!how totally evil is that?)

Anyway,if you’re dating a clueless guy or know someone who is,feel free to send them a link to this post card. And guys please remember…females are really not that complicated!!

pornografly

Alrighty then…there’s so much I could write about this picture of two flies going at it doggy-style but I’ll let you insert your own cheesy jokes here.
I just find it a tad strange that someone out there actually took the time to get a closeup of the flies…geez can’t the poor flies have some privacy?

This made me smile…

Your Keepers

Saturday, July 7th, 2007

One of my closest friends sent me this and it got me all teary…I don’t know who the author is but I’m sure you’ll enjoy it…

I grew up in the fifties with practical parents — a Mother, God love her, who washed aluminum foil after she cooked in it, then reused it. She was the original recycle queen, before they had a name for it… A Father who was happier getting old shoes fixed than buying new ones.

Their marriage was good, their dreams focused. Their best friends lived barely a wave away. I can see them now, Dad in trousers, tee shirt and a hat and Mom in a house dress, lawn mower in one hand, and dish towel in the other.

It was the time for fixing things — a curtain rod, the kitchen radio, screen door, the oven door, the hem in a dress. Things we keep. It was a way of life, and sometimes it made me crazy. All that re-fixing, reheating, renewing, I wanted just once to be wasteful. Waste meant affluence. Throwing things away meant you knew there’d always be more.

But then my Mother died, and on that clear summer’s night, in the warmth of the hospital room, I was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn’t any more.

Sometimes, what we care about most gets all used up and goes away… never to return.

So…while we have it…its best we love it…..and care for it…. and fix it when it’s broken….. And heal it when it’s sick. This is true… for marriage…old radios…and old cars… and children with bad report cards… and dogs with bad hips… and aging parents… and grandparents. We keep them because they are worth it, because we are worth it. Some things we keep. Like a best friend that moved away — or — a classmate we grew up with.

There are just some things that make life important, like people we know who are special…..and so, we keep them close!

Who are the keepers in your life?
