You know you’re a grown-up when…

…picking a big fight with your guy at midnight isn’t nearly as gratifying as it once was.You want your beauty sleep!

…dropping $50 on your favorite body cream is a reasonable expenditure because you’re clear on the meaning of “occassional splurge”.

…just thinking about the most beloved candy of your childhood (Shock Tarts, anyone?) makes your teeth hurt.

…as much as it breaks your heart (and it does),you steel yourself, stand back and allow your children to:struggle in sports, sob when they don’t get invited to the slumber party, and receive a lousy grade when they don’t turn in their social studies assignments on time.

…you realize—with,it must be said,a touch of horror—that routines are,in fact,comforting.

…you start exercising and watching your weight not only to fit into a size [insert your dream number here] pair of jeans but also because it feels pretty great to take care of yourself.

…even though you don’t “do” hospital visits,his-and-her bridal showers,or funerals, you go anyway because it means a lot to someone else that you are there.

…you finally embrace the value of a slip.

About Money

With money you can buy a house but not a home
With money you can buy a clock but not time
With money you can buy a bed but not sleep
With money you can buy a book but not knowledge
With money you can see a doctor but not buy good health
With money you can buy a position but not respect
With money you can buy blood but not life
With money you can buy sex but not love

…someone compliments your shoes and you say “Thanks!” instead of “Oh,I’ve had these things forever.”

…at family events your older relatives discuss politics infront of you and actually ask for your opinion

…sunscreen (SPF 15,minimum) is the foundation of your summer wardrobe

…Mom’s simple guideline as to how riled up you should get over life’s calamities starts to make sense - to wit: Will [insert crisis of the moment here] matter to you a year from now?

…you favor an ordinary ringtone for your cell phone rather than the catchiest, most addictively head-bopping pop song you can find

…the thought of planning for retirement has evolved from “Who,me?” to … tantalizing

…at a party you spy someone who doesn’t know anyone and you strike up a conversation just to be nice - and because you’ve been that person before

8 things no one tells you about marriage

Blogged under This and That by mimi on Friday 23 May 2008 at 6:34 pm

1.You will look at the person lying next to you and wonder,Is this it?Forever?

2.You’ll work harder than you ever imagined

3.You will sometimes go to bed mad (and maybe even wake up madder)

4.You will go without sex - sometimes for a long time - and that’s okay.

5.Getting your way is usually not as important as finding a way to work together

6.A great marriage doesn’t mean no conflict,it simply means a couple keeps trying to get it right.

7.You’ll realize that you can only change yourself

8.As you face your fears and insecurities, you will find out what you’re really made of.

…you’re able to say no,no,no! to those truly adorable platform wedge sling-backs because you’re saving for the trip to Paris you’ve always dreamed of

…the checker at the grocery store calls you “ma’am” and you don’t plummet into a monthlong depression

…you say, “I know mom means well” - and you really mean it

…waffles become your dinner of choice now and then - not because there’s nothing else in the house to eat but just because you like them

…you figure out that Prince Charming lives in the same universe as Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny

…you also realize that not all the “good ones” are married or gay

…a normally even-tempered friend flies off the handle at you,and rather than snarling back, you wonder if there’s something going on with her

…your primary feeling toward Britney is one of pity

…you suddenly get why your father complained so much about taxes

…you feel no compulsion to adopt the current sizzling-hot (and really stupid-looking) fashion trend, you know that, like a mild rash,it’ll soon go away on its own

…the idea of staying in is just as appealing as the idea of going out

…you decide to learn how to play the guitar, speak italian and scuba dive, for no other reason than your own desire

…rocking out along with the radio no longer embarrasses you.Infact, you turn it up.

…the proverb “Life is short, but wide” starts to make sense

Are there any good florists in Atlanta?

Blogged under This and That by mimi on Saturday 17 May 2008 at 2:32 pm

On mother’s day I had the misfortune of being involved in an auto accident and as I lay on a stretcher in the ER waiting for my xrays to be performed,I couldn’t help but be amazed at just how many sick people in the hospital didn’t have a single flower by their bed side.Did they not have any caring families and friends or does Atlanta not have any good florists?

Surely,it can’t be the latter because a simple search for Atlanta florists brought up a variety of beautiful bouquets at very affordable prices. The flowers are all neatly and professionally arranged and they are tailored to suit different occassions - there are bouquets for special days like birthdays to nice bouquets that can be sent as a “get well soon” gift to your loved one.

So the next time your loved one is in the hospital, brighten up their day by sending them a lovely bouquet of flowers from your local Atlanta florists. And if you’ve got some spare cash handy, buy some flowers and send them to a stranger at the hospital!
