Face of Betrayal – Lis Wiehl with April Henry

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

Bill O’Reilly and I finally agree on something… Lis Wiehl’s Face of Betrayal is a blast to read. The cover artwork is what attracted me to the book but its the fast paced action inside that kept my eyes and fingers firmly glued to the pages inside.

Face of Betrayal is a political thriller about a senate page who goes missing on her christmas break and the Triple Threat Club (a federal prosecutor, a crime reporter and an FBI special agent) who take it upon themselves to try and find the missing girl in the midst of the media circus created by the revelation that the missing senate page was having an affair with a much older senator.

It is one of those gripping books you will not want to put down the second you read the first line. You will get so attached to the characters, you’ll feel as if you’re there for every twist and turn they take.

My only gripe with the book is the ending. In my opinion it was kind of weak. The book is so fast paced,I expected a big dramatic ending but I was disappointed with the way things unfolded. It also got a bit too busy at times with the authors trying to give us a glimpse into the lives of all the characters. But overrall the authors did a good job writing an interesting thriller.Lis Wiehl’s Face of Betrayal is definitely worth a read.

Grey’s Anatomy – Alex Karev and Izzie Stevens’ Wedding Vows

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

I have a love-hate relationship with Grey’s Anatomy, some weeks I love it,some weeks I detest it with a passion. Some storylines are amazing, others are incredibly maddening–like the ghost sex storyline, come on…seriously?I understand pushing the limits but that was just plain silly.

But the creator and writers went back to the very basics of Grey’s Anatomy and wrote a truly memorable 100th episode that reminded me why I fell in love with Grey’s Anatomy in the first place.I cried,I cried hard.Seriously.I knew someone was getting married and I knew it wouldnt be Meredith and McDreamy so I’m glad I was right on the money when I guessed it would be Karev making an honest woman out of Stevens. What really had me reaching for the kleenex were the vows Alex recited to Izzie infront of everyone.True,he “borrowed” them from a dying student but man,I never thought I would ever hear Alex Karev saying those words to any woman, period.

In case you’re one of 3 people in the entire world who missed that amazing Grey’s Anatomy episode, the vows from Alex and Izzie’s wedding are below:

“Today’s the day my life begins. All my life I’ve been just me, just a smart mouthed kid. Today I become a man, today I become a husband.” Today I become accountable to someone other than myself. Today I become accountable to you, to our future… No matter what happens, I’ll be ready, for anything, for everything… Today, Izzie Stevens, our life begins and I for one can’t wait.”

Love Notes by Ryan Dalgliesh

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

My mum sent me an email the other day with the sentence : “To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did..” and I rolled my eyes because its such a cliche but it is very true.

As most of you know,I just went through a really major life change that led me back to the often confusing world of dating. So I was super excited when I got my hands on Ryan Dalgliesh’s Love Notes. See,like most of you,I was 120% I knew what love was – how to give it and how to show it.My only problem was I wasn’t getting any love back – surely it was “their” fault.I pointed fingers and placed blame on everyone and everything but me but by the time I got to page 44 of Love Notes,I knew I had to be honest with myself….its not “them”,its me.Going purely by the biblical definition of love Ryan lays out,I don’t have the slightest clue what love is or how to love. The answer I sought when I first got Love Notes was right on page 44. I could have stopped right there but my curiosity didn’t let me.

Love Notes is a thoroughly researched book that explores the subject of love in a way you and I have never thought of it.Its a good read that the author definitely put alot of work into, his passion for the subject shines through on each page.Sometimes you will throw your fist in the air and agree with him, other times you will most definitely disagree with him but all his research is backed by scripture so its kinda hard to argue with that.

I think Ryan went to the far extreme in some of his interpretations of love, demanding a kind of perfection that is unrealistic when it comes to the human race but overall he nailed it.He did an awesome job of analyzing love and what it really means.Again I say,the entire book in my opinion is best summarized in chapter four and especially by the 1 Corinthians quote on page 44.

Love Notes was a real eye opener for me.Thanks to this book,I know what I need to work on to get what I want.I am finally learning what love is and how to really love and it actually feels pretty good.I know without a doubt you too will enjoy Ryan Dalgliesh’s Love Notes.

I spent mother’s day at the Bodies Exhibition

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Sunday was mother’s day and I was lucky enough to get treated to something rather unique.
No,I didn’t get fancy jewelry or even breakfast in bed.Heck,I didn’t even get a new handbag BUT my little dude was nice enough to let me borrow his ipod for a day–thats a huge deal seeing as its practically glued to his hands and a friend took me to see the Bodies Exhibition.

What is that?
Excellent question my friend,I’m very glad you asked it.

In the simplest of terms, its basically a look at the human body using actual human specimens.
Forget biology class where you played with dummy organs and skeletons, this is the real deal.At some point these people where breathing and living just like you and I and when they died, they donated their bodies for this.

Bodies Exhibition

Its scary. Its fascinating. Its gross. Its eye opening. Its intriguing. Its a bunch of emotions all rolled into one.Its a rather interesting look at all the little guys inside you who work so hard to keep you going on a daily basis.

I’ll tell you this: I have a much better understanding and appreciation of my body after attending the Bodies Exhibition.
